5M Latino Entrepreneurship is a community initiative that promotes the economic growth of Latino entrepreneurs in Iowa. Together, we learn, develop, and empower through workshops, mentorship, certifications, and strategic partnerships. We provide tools and resources to strengthen small businesses and foster a more inclusive, supportive, and sustainable economy.

5M Emprendimiento Latino es una iniciativa comunitaria que impulsa el crecimiento económico de emprendedores latinos en Iowa. Juntos aprendemos, emprendemos y empoderamos, a través de talleres, mentorías, certificaciones y alianzas estratégicas, brindamos herramientas y recursos para fortalecer pequeños negocios y fomentar una economía más inclusiva, solidaria y sostenible.

Como organización, 5M Emprendimiento Latino lleva ya cinco años trabajando y brindando servicios dentro de la comunidad. Durante los primeros años, funcionamos como un laboratorio/incubadora, donde cada uno de los miembros originales aprendió a iniciar su propio negocio desde cero.

Como grupo, también hemos colaborado con diversas organizaciones, como el Condado de Johnson Local Food Project, Johnson County Food Policy council, Dream City, South of the Six, University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Consulado Mexicano en Omaha Nebraska, entre muchas otras. Además, ayudamos a crear y coordinar por tres años consecutivos el Mercado de la Diversidad, junto con talleres, sesiones de capacitación y servicios de consultoría, a través de los cuales hemos contribuido al desarrollo y crecimiento de numerosas pequeñas empresas.

A nivel individual, cada uno de nuestros miembros ha formado parte de varias juntas directivas y comités asesores, incluidos South of the Six, RSFIC, Field to Family, Summer of the Arts, Ecopolis, Iowa City Latino Festival y Global Food Project. Asimismo, continuamos ofreciendo horas de trabajo y voluntariado a organizaciones locales como The Center for Worker Justice, Open Heartland, entre muchos otros proyectos comunitarios.

En conjunto, aportamos muchos años de experiencia acumulada trabajando por, y defendiendo a, las comunidades locales, a los latinos y a otras minorías en el condado de Johnson.

En 2023, La Mexicana y Mendoza Consulting experimentaron un crecimiento significativo, al punto que dos de los miembros fundadores decidieron dejar la organización para concentrarse en administrar sus negocios exitosos. Los miembros actuales continúan brindando servicios, y ahora estamos preparados para llevar a 5M Emprendimiento Latino al siguiente nivel, reafirmando nuestro compromiso de construir una comunidad empresarial resiliente, próspera y diversa.

Estamos convencidas de que el proyecto de 5M Emprendimiento Latino tiene un impacto significativo en los residentes del condado de Johnson, Iowa. A través de nuestra experiencia y las nuevas iniciativas que proponemos, aspiramos a seguir contribuyendo al crecimiento económico y al empoderamiento de la comunidad local.

Get to know us

As an organization, 5M Latino Emprendimiento has been working and providing services within the community for five years. During the initial years, we functioned as a laboratory/incubator, where each of the original members learned to start their own business from scratch.

As a group, we have also collaborated with various organizations, such as the Johnson County Local Food Project, Johnson County Food Policy Council, Dream City, South of the Six, University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the Mexican Consulate in Omaha, Nebraska, among many others. Additionally, we helped create and coordinate the Diversity Market for three consecutive years, along with workshops, training sessions, and consulting services, through which we have contributed to the development and growth of numerous small businesses.

Individually, each of our members has served on several boards of directors and advisory committees, including South of the Six, RSFIC, Field to Family, Summer of the Arts, Ecopolis, Iowa City Latino Festival, and Global Food Project. We also continue to offer our work and volunteer hours to local organizations such as The Center for Worker Justice, Open Heartland, and many other community projects.

Collectively, we bring many years of accumulated experience working for and advocating for local communities, Latinos, and other minorities in Johnson County.

In 2023, La Mexicana and Mendoza Consulting experienced significant growth, to the point that two of the founding members decided to leave the organization to focus on running their successful businesses. Current members continue to serve, and we are now ready to take 5M Emprendimiento Latino to the next level, reaffirming our commitment to building a resilient, prosperous, and diverse business community.

We are convinced that the 5M Emprendimiento Latino project will have a significant impact on the residents of Johnson County, Iowa. Through our experience and the new initiatives we propose, we aspire to continue contributing to the economic growth and empowerment of the local community.
